Marley B3

One of my favorite parts of birthday parties is the birthday cakes! I have been doing different character cakes each year and I just love planning what I'm going to do next. This year for Marley's cake I decided to try fondant. I've been intimidated in the past so I've just done buttercream frosting. Well, I found a recipe online, held my breath and tried it. It was so much fun and not as difficult as I thought. Plus, there are so many great video tutorials online.
Douglas helped me pick a good picture of R2D2 and we built this cake one section at a time.
The web site that I found my recipe on is thecookduke.com
Marley helped me make a quadruple recipe of fondant

Douglas took pictures of the progression and gave me lots of encouragement.

I made a bit of a mess, but it was fun!

Okay, a BIG mess. During the process our friends came over and couldn't hide the shock on their faces, but hopefully I'll learn to be more tidy as I improve my skills.

Gracie loved watching and was excited as it started to look like R2D2

One piece at a time:)

The finished product

Marley was so sweet and came in as I was finishing and said,
"Mom this is the coolest cake ever!"
He just melted my heart.
Part of the reason I made this a post was because I think as a Mother sometimes I don't feel very talented and appreciated. This boosted my confidence and helped me feel appreciated. I think every Mom needs that in some form. Now I'm thinking about what I can do for my next cake!!

Party # 2

We tried to make Marley's actual birthday special too, so we had lunch and playtime at McDonalds and had a special dinner for him. He was excited to eat cake and ice cream again and open up MORE presents!!

I'm so behind on blogging and I'd still like to catch up but I couldn't pass up this special occasion! Our Marley Man turned three this month and we had such a fun time celebrating! Marley has been obsessed with Star W
.ars lately and was so excited to have a STAR WARS BIRTHDAY PARTY! His excitement has been contagious and we all had a blast planning his big day. We had lots of friends and family come to help us celebrate and the party turned out so fun! Most importantly Marley was so happy and loved every minute of it. Happy Birthday to such a special little boy who brings a lot of Joy to our family. We love you!

Fathers Day

I'm still in the process of catching up the last 4 months and I can't forget a very important part of our family: Douglas (aka daddy, papi, dumpy) Way back in June we celebrated Fathers Day with a very special man in our lives. Douglas does so much to bring happiness and stability to our family. We are extremely blessed to have such a wonderful husband and father. Thank you Douglas for bringing so much joy to our lives. We love you!

Funny faces

Riley and Douglas found Riley's old Navy uniform and they squeezed him into it. It was a special walk down memory lane for Riley.

A visit to Grandma and Grandpa's wouldn't be complete without watering the plants.

Douglas got a kayak for his Fathers Day gift
He loves it!

Trying it out for the first time
